My 6 year old and 7 year old boys loved the experience. Definitely recommend this experience for families visiting the city. I did little to no research on this experience beforehand. Honestly, it sort of added to the adventure. I understand that not everyone is as wild and crazy as I am, so I am here to share everything I know.

We had a charming captain and he made sure we learned the history of the area as well as saw dolphins, manta rays, all kinds of jelly fish, and sharks! Your pirate adventure launches in Destin Harbor, where the crew will gather all the Scallywags and Lil Bucs on the main deck to partake in the interactive fun and excitement.
Southern Star Dolphin Cruise
Since you are able to move around freely aboard the ship during the cruise there is no need to be the “first one on” to get a good seat. If we were to go again we would wait in the shade until it was time to board. Friday nights in July, enjoy the sights and lights of Destin Harbor aboard our 1 hour, relaxing, night time cruise for guests of all ages! Check in at the ticket booth at least 30 minutes before cruise time. Allow for at least an hour travel time for account for parking and any traffic during busy seasons. Peak prices may apply to our most popular cruise times during the summer months.
As we exit the harbor and proceed into Destin’s East Pass, the mateys instruct everyone how to walk like a pirate should the seas become rough. Safety and passenger comfort are great concerns and you are in good hands with your captain and crew. We stay inside protected waters, but maintaining your “sea legs” is of the utmost importance while on board any ship. Once pirate training is complete, you’ll need to look the part, and swabbies have the opportunity to get their faces painted. Parents are welcome to join in with the Scallywags and Lil Bucs, but only those brave enough to complete pirate training will be made honorary members of the Buccaneer Crew.
If you’re not keen to plundering and swabbing the decks, our galley mates serve grog to those pirates 21 and up. Simply kick back, relax, take in the scenery, and watch your lads and lasses have the time of their lives. Our family of three enjoyed the cruise, Destin is beautiful when your on the boat you get to really see it’s water. We did see a couple dolphins and fed some of the birds. They have refreshments on board if you’d like to drink and captain hats that my son fell in love with. At the end they gave my son a small treasure.

This is a dolphin tour you don’t want to miss. For example, there isn’t really a benefit to arriving early. I mean, you have the peace of mind that you aren’t going to miss the experience or get lost, but that’s about it. The instructions you receive after booking your experience say to arrive 90 minutes early, which is nuts if you ask me! Parking can be a bit squirrely, but 45 minutes early was plenty for us. Once you check in you are instructed to stand in line at the gate of the ship on the dock.
